Buying a domain looks simple — pick a name, type your card, done. The trap is in year two. That ₹99 .com you bought renews at ₹1,479 next year. The ₹1 .in becomes ₹699. Suddenly the "cheapest" domain registrar is the most expensive one.
This guide covers what each registrar actually charges in year 1 vs year 2, when "free with hosting" is genuinely free, and the simple trick that lets you keep paying first-year promo prices forever.

Two important notes on this table:
- The year-1 column is what gets advertised. The renewal column is the real long-term cost.

Use Cloudflare if: you already have your domain elsewhere on a cheap promo and the renewal date is approaching. Transfer the domain to Cloudflare to lock in the lowest perpetual rate available.
One restriction: Cloudflare Registrar is transfer-only. You can't register a brand-new domain there — you have to register elsewhere, then transfer. Slightly annoying but worth it for the long-term savings.

"Free domain with hosting" — when is it actually free?
Hostinger, Bluehost, and several others offer a free domain when you buy annual hosting. Real or marketing fluff?
It's mostly real, with one caveat: the domain is only free in year 1. Year 2 onwards, you pay the registrar's standard renewal rate, which is often higher than what you'd pay at a discount registrar.
The math works in your favour if:
- You were going to buy hosting anyway
- You only need the domain for 1 year (or you'll transfer it before year 2)
It works against you if:
- You're buying hosting only to get a "free" domain — you'd save more by buying domain and hosting separately
